Sometimes it takes a crisis to get me moving, but when I do, I deliver.
With the 2017 Snow Ball just two weeks away, I got an email from my CFO telling me that the DJ we had lined up wasn’t responding to our emails and we had to drop him.
I was stuck with a paid-for venue and no DJ or lighting equipment. This wasn’t a good position to be in. It would be slightly easier to get a two-humped camel through the eye of a needle than to have a dance without those.
Now, with everything to lose, I sent an email off to another local DJ service, asking for a quote. I wasn’t expecting them to be available so close to the date of the dance but figured it was worth a shot.
I spent yesterday morning envisioning and preparing for the worst case scenario: DJing myself with a borrowed mixer and Christmas lights as the décor… Shaking that thought out of my mind, I frantically put together a song list to play just in case this did indeed happen.
After receiving no word all weekend, I checked my inbox today and saw I had an email from the DJ service that I had contacted last week. I called them up this afternoon to confirm the price quoted in the email and ask a few questions. It turns out that not only could they do the DJing for less, they would also provide lighting, two DJs, and they knew the venue better than I did.
This was the best possible result. All it took was lots of panic and some good communication.
Now—knock on wood—I can focus my energies back into the setup and ticket sales.
